Scottish Recovery Network has created a guide to help inform the process of sharing personal experiences related to mental health and recovery. They are conducted a narrative study collecting stories from over 60 individuals and found that, "For some of the people we spoke with spirituality and religion aided their recovery. For some people seeing their recovery as 'a spiritual ongoing journey' helped them make sense of their experiences."
Ian McPherson wrote an account in which he used spirituality, support from ALANON, keeping physically active, and maintaining a positive outlook to support his recovery.
